About Airspotters

It all began in 1973 when Airspotters, then just 15 years old, was out riding their bike when they witnessed a British Caledonian BAC 1-11 land at London Gatwick Airport. Their fascination in flight began on that day and has continued ever since. At first, their passion was a fun activity that involved gathering as many airplane registration numbers as they could. Many travels to London Heathrow Airport and air exhibitions like Farnborough were necessary. Up until about 1977, Airspotters kept track of statistics, but they didn't have much free time because of their full-time jobs. Instead of only photographing the registrations, they chose to photograph the actual aircraft. After that, they didn't do anything with their pastime for approximately 15 years, until they looked over all of their airplane photos in late 1997.
